Microchipping

Each year, many horses go missing and may not make it back to their rightful owners. This economic, personal, and emotional loss can be devastating for horse owners. Even if a missing or stolen horse is located by the proper authorities, tracing the horse back to the proper owner is sometimes not possible. It can be very helpful if you use a form of identification that is reliable and won’t be lost, stolen, or damaged. A microchip is a safe, simple form of identification that can significantly increase the chance that your horse will be returned to you safely.

A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and is placed underneath your horse’s skin—in the neck near the mane. Microchip implantation takes only a few minutes. Each microchip is unique and carries vital information about your horse—including your name, address, and contact information. When a microchip is implanted, the horse’s owner is given a registration form to complete. Veterinary hospitals, animal control officers, and other authorities across the country are equipped with special electronic scanners that can detect the microchip and read the identification number. If a lost or stolen horse is located by animal control or found by a Good Samaritan and presented to authorities, a quick scan of the microchip reveals the identification number. The horse’s owner can then be contacted and reunited with his or her horse!

Microchipping is an effective way to help ensure your horse’s return if the unthinkable happens. Ask us about microchipping your horse today!

He is quick to follow up with any requests or questions and is sensitive to clients emotions with their animals. He is the first and only vet we will call when one of our animals needs care. My only “wish” is that he treated all varieties of livestock because he is the best we have found at what he does!
